The Called Co. Inc. is a veteran-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity providing rapid-access, non-invasive physical healthcare directly to military veterans. Traditional medical models isolate physical injuries from mental health trauma, trapping veterans in bureaucratic delays. We deliver immediate, zero-cost, "battlefield-style" chiropractic adjustments and soft-tissue mobilization directly into veteran environments, such as community spaces, public gatherings, and outreach hubs. Completely bypassing the administrative barriers of the VA.

We aren’t getting the care we deserve and it’s part of the suicide problem.
Our organizational research highlights a severe disconnect between federal care policies, systemic healthcare bottlenecks, and the urgent real-world needs of veterans:
The Chronic Pain and Suicide Link: A landmark study published in JAMA (July 2013) established that veterans with noncancer chronic pain face a significantly higher risk of suicide. Severe physical pain acts as an independent driver of mortality, requiring immediate intervention before escalating into a mental health crisis.
The Mental and Physical Trauma Loop: The VA National Center for PTSD Research Quarterly (Vol. 33, No. 2, 2022) notes that up to 80% of veterans diagnosed with PTSD also suffer from chronic pain. This Mutual Maintenance Model shows that physical pain acts as a continuous, subconscious internal trauma cue triggering PTSD hyperarousal, while psychological stress simultaneously lowers a veteran's physical pain threshold.
Written Mandates vs. Infrastructure Deficits: Although VHA Directive 1210 mandates that veterans have a right to chiropractic care, the VA’s internal system cannot scale to meet demand. A comprehensive 5-year analysis (Burdick et al., 2022)revealed on-site VA chiropractic utilization sits at a critically low 1.48%, forcing an astronomical 53% annual surge in outsourced community care requests. There is no oversight as to what these community care providers are actually doing.
The Federal Zoning and Visit Bottlenecks: Once referred out to private networks, veterans face extreme limitations. Federal law under 42 CFR § 410.21 restricts chiropractic billing strictly to manual manipulation of the spine, entirely excluding extremity joint work. Furthermore, even with the VA's Medical Massage Directive (CDI-00036, June 2025) authorizing certain codes, rigid 12-visit caps per episode and aggressive efficiency cuts (CMS-1832-F) have driven providers out of the network entirely.
-
Zero Administrative Backlogs: Because we operate through a donor-backed public charity model, our providers do not require primary care pre-authorizations, insurance billing clearings, or institutional referrals.
Completely Unbundled from Federal Rules: Our care parameters are entirely independent of CMS/Medicare zoning laws. We address full-body musculoskeletal trauma. (which includes extremities) without visit caps or regional code restrictions.
Veteran-Led Clinical Empathy: Founded and operated by military veterans who have personally navigated the gaps in federal care, and found the way around them. We are just trying to do our part (the way we know how) in our number one shared mission:
TO END VETERAN SUICIDE.
